Announce launch of self service check e-verify

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS English) and the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services or USCIS, this morning announced that starting today, users will have access to self-check E- Verify. This service will allow people in the United States to verify if their status allows them to work legally before seeking formal employment.

Self Check E-Verify is the first Internet program E-Verify offered directly to employees and applicants for employment. This voluntary service, free, fast and safe was developed jointly by the DHS and the Department of Social Insurance (Social Security Administration or SSA).

For now, Self Check E-Verify is only available to users who have a direction and are physically located in Arizona, Idaho, Colorado, Mississippi, Virginia and the District of Columbia. The USCIS has said it will continue to expand access to service in the coming months.

USCIS Announces Strategy for 2011

Yesterday I participated in a conference call conducted by Alejandro Mayorkas, the Director of the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services or USCIS. During this conference call, with the participation of interested individuals around the country, Mr. Mayorkas which outlined the priorities and goals of the USCIS during 2011.

Mayorkas The Director noted that in 2011 the USCIS will be devoted to meeting the following points:

  1. Strengthen national security controls
  2. Work closely with the Postal Service of the United States to provide a mail system for sending secure permanent resident cards and employment authorisation documents.
  3. Implement the USCIS initiative to combat the unauthorised practice of immigration law (this means they will take measures to help local authorities to prosecute people who illegally provide legal services such as notaries public).
  4. Allow access to the E-Verify to future employees, that they prove their employment eligibility status.
  5. Improve the internal operations of USCIS. For example, soon will allow the user to submit documentation requested by the USCIS via electronic mail (email). Read the rest of this entry »

Obama Solve The Problem of Illegal Immigration

In his State of the Union last night, Obama expressed the need to address “once and for all”, the issue of illegal immigration. He asked Democrats and Republicans a political agreement and fair.

The president said he was prepared to work with members of both parties to protect the country’s borders, enforce laws and resolve “the situation of millions of undocumented workers living in the shadows.”

“I know the debate will be difficult and take time,” the president said. “But tonight, we agree to that effort. And let’s stop expelling talented and responsible young people who may occupy our research labs, start new businesses and further enrich this nation. ” He stressed that should not be penalized for the children of illegal immigrants who were brought to America by his parents and said the defeat of the initiative of the DREAM Act to legalize the immigration status of these youth.
