Announce launch of self service check e-verify

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS English) and the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services or USCIS, this morning announced that starting today, users will have access to self-check E- Verify. This service will allow people in the United States to verify if their status allows them to work legally before seeking formal employment.

Self Check E-Verify is the first Internet program E-Verify offered directly to employees and applicants for employment. This voluntary service, free, fast and safe was developed jointly by the DHS and the Department of Social Insurance (Social Security Administration or SSA).

For now, Self Check E-Verify is only available to users who have a direction and are physically located in Arizona, Idaho, Colorado, Mississippi, Virginia and the District of Columbia. The USCIS has said it will continue to expand access to service in the coming months.

How does E-Verify Self Check:

  1. Users provide identifying information online (such as name, date of birth and address).
  2. Users confirm their identity by answering questions or financial demographic generated by a service independent confirmation of identity.
  3. Users provide information about your eligibility to work, such as social security number, and according to their immigration status, alien registration number (Alien Registration).
  4. Self Check E-Verify compares the data of users with information in the databases of the SSA and DHS, and then gives information on the status of users and whether they can work legally.

According to an official statement, the information that users provide and the results of the consultations Self Check E-Verify will not be shared with employers or potential employers.

The results of the consultations Self Check E-Verify does not replace the results of a query to E-Verify by an employer.
